Fountain Valley School of Colorado empowers alumni to make mobile donations at consecutive annual reunion weekends.

 

BACKGROUND FVS is dedicated to providing a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum in academics, athletics and the arts. Their community endeavors to foster a lifelong love of challenge and learning in an environment of diversity and mutual respect, and to prepare adolescents to become individuals who are open-minded, curious, courageous, self-reliant and compassionate.

ALUMNI WEEKEND With more than 4,500 alumni spread across the country and the world—FVS has vibrant alumni community and is dedicated to hosting gatherings, sharing alumni news, and promoting supportive and generous donations to the school.

Every Summer FVS hosts a alumni reunion weekend during which they fundraise for the school. For the last two years FVS has effectively empowered its alumni to make text message pledge donations to augment traditional fundraising methods. Here are the mobile pledging statistics from the past two years:

MOBILE PLEDGING STATISTICS
2009: 88 pledges for $12,836
2010: 60 pledges for $17,284

*Amounts raised from text message pledges are in addition to traditional fundraising methods. Fountain Valley School plans to use mobile pledging for their upcoming 2012 alumni weekend this June.

LGBT Text to Pledge Fundraising Call to ActionBACKGROUND Since 1971 the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center has been building the health, advocating for the rights and enriching the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. The Center’s wide array of services includes: free HIV/AIDS care and medications for those most in need; housing, food, clothing and support for homeless LGBT youth; support and advocacy services for LGBT seniors and LGBT-parented families.

 

LGBT Text to Pledge Fundraising PhoneDINNER GALA FUNDRAISING EVENT On November 12, 2011 the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center held it’s 40th Anniversary Gala & Auction at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka were honored with the Rand Schrader Distinguished Achievement Award.

To enhance traditional fundraising opportunities at the event Peter Paige led a special giving opportunity using mobile pledging real time philanthropy. He encouraged guests to text the keyword FAMILY followed by and DONATION AMOUNT and their NAME to 27138 to make a pledge to support the center. The additional giving opportunity at the event raised $62,000.

Melanoma Research Text Donations CAUSE The Melanoma Research Foundation is committed to the support of medical research in finding effective treatments and eventually a cure for melanoma, the MRF also educates patients and physicians about prevention, diagnosis and the treatment of melanoma.

OPPORTUNITY The nonprofit was approached by Cosmopolitan Magazine with an offer to run a full page ad during the summer season to raise awareness for melanoma prevention, treatment and research.

PROBLEM MRF wanted to use the Cosmo/Safe Sun venture to not only increase melanoma awareness, but also to build relationships with new supporters and acquire new donors. MRF recognized that while readers would often be away from a computer they would almost never be away from a mobile phone.  They needed a new method of cultivating donors to effectively utilize the magazine opportunity.

SOLUTION MobileCause recommended that MRF incentivize Cosmopolitan readers to receive one ‘sun-safe’ bracelet if they made a $10 text donation or three ‘sun-safe’ bracelets if they made a $25 text donation. Readers could text “MRF(space)10” or “MRF(space)25” to make a donation. Supporters then received an immediate SMS with instructions to text the their full name and the address where the bracelet(s) could be sent. The following day the donor was contacted by the MobileCause call center, with script branded as Melanoma Research Foundation, to fulfill their pledge. Media coverage at the Cosmo Practice Safe Sun Awards helped to popularize the bracelets, where many supporters and celebrities sported the trendy wrist wear in support of MRF.  The ad campaign resulted in 2412 new donors and raised $8105 in text donations. Additionally, MRF received full donor data from 576 supporters to be used for future fundraising campaigns.

HIGHLIGHTS

Magazine ad readers were effectively incentivized to make text donations resulting in $8105 dollars in additional revenues for MRF awareness.
