American Idol viewers make a huge difference around the world by texting IDOL to 20222 to make $10 donations.

Idol Gives Back is the Emmy Award-winning television event and musical celebration raising awareness and funds to benefit various U.S. and international charities. 2010 beneficiaries included Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation. President Barack Obama, Ben Affleck and Bill Gates all made appeals for donations.

In addition to traditional fundraising methods during the two hour fundraising telethon show—Idol Gives Back empowered viewers to make $10 text message donations by texting IDOL to 20222 up to three times. The Text to Give opportunity was promoted in three 30 second spots throughout the program.

Even though the American Idol text donations fundraising campaign only received 90 seconds of airtime—$10 text donations from the event raised an incredible total of $1,191,995. Participation television with celebrity calls to action for Text to Give donations continue to be one of the most effective fundraising methods in the world.
