Alicia Keys Says to American Idol Fans, Text ALIVE to Make a $5 Text to Give Donation to Keep a Child Alive.

The Grammy-winning singer appeared on the American Idol show last Wednesday to urge viewers to support the Text to Give ALIVE Challenge, which aims to bring medicine and medical care to children and families with HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.

Keys asked American Idol fans to text the word ALIVE to make a $5 Text-to-Give donation to Keep a Child Alive—the charity she co-founded and for which she serves as global ambassador. She also introduced a beneficiary of the charity, 15-year-old Rwandan rapper Noah, who performed on the show.

In one night, $450,000 was raised by text! Text donations eclipsed the total money raised in all of 2008. And not a single check was written or credit card was used!
