Actor Chris Pratt is known to be friendly with his fans, but he went above and beyond Friday when he asked them to create a new header for his Facebook page using the powers of Photoshop.Social Media Contest Ideas for Nonprofits

He asked only that the image feature his most famous characters — Peter Quill, Owen, Andy and Emmet — as well as “eagles, american flags, guns, cool ford raptors, cigars, explosions” and “some cool guns or rollerblades,” among his other favourite things.

The winner could receive a free dinner at Applebees, as well as the actor’s eternal gratitude, probably.

Needless to say, Pratt fans have fired up their computers and got to editing. The Jurassic World star is showing his appreciation by liking and commenting on many of the images being submitted.

Here are some submissions:

Everything Is Awesome When You Crowdsource In-Need Projects

Actor Chris Pratt (Everwood, Parks & Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World) needs a new Facebook banner photo. So he asked his Facebook “friends” to help him design a new image featuring his famous characters and some random favorite things.

Pratt issued his call-to-action just days ago in a social media post, and the responses have poured in. There are tens of thousands of Likes, Photoshopped submissions and comments – including individual responses from Pratt himself.

Social Media Contest Ideas for Nonprofits

Engaging fans/supporters over social media is easy and beneficial for your organization. Do you have a need for a skill or project that would help your cause? Ask your supporters!

In-kind donations and volunteer opportunities are a great way to stay connected without asking for money. Plus, your organization still reaps the benefits.

Can’t think of anything that needs to be done? We doubt that’s the case, but holding a contest is another fun way to engage supporters. A few social media contest ideas for nonprofits include:

  • Facebook/Twitter header banner design contest: Most creative or most Likes/retweets/votes wins.
  • Fundraising event poster design contest: Share on Instagram or Facebook. Most Likes/votes wins.
  • Instagram scavenger hunt: Create a list of items to look for on your website, at a fundraising event, or during a volunteer opportunity. Have teams or individuals document their findings on Instagram. Make sure they tag your organization and use a #hashtag that calls attention to your cause.
  • YouTube video PSA contest: Have supporters create & submit 15- or 30-second public service commercials for your organization on YouTube. Share over social media and get votes by Facebook Likes.

Use social media (Twitter, Facebook & Instagram), plus mobile messaging, to communicate your org’s needs. Don’t forget to keep the conversation going through responses, updates on the project and big Thank You’s (of course!)
