Challenge

Christ Community Health Services, a healthcare provider to the medically underserved and uninsured members of the greater Mid-South area, originally selected MobileCause for their Gospel Concert on March 6, 2020. Just two days after the concert, the first COVID-19 case occurred in the Mid-South, also known as the ten counties encompassing the Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas area. The Christ Community team knew they needed to build a COVID-19 testing site, but didn’t know how to start collecting test requests from individuals.

Solution

Christ Community Health Services’ Chief Development Officer, Michelle Lady, wanted to create an online form for COVID-19 testing applications and announce it using mobile messaging. She relied solely on the training resources in the MobileCause Knowledge Center to set up both the online form and mobile messaging, noting how easy and intuitive the MobileCause interface is. When the CDC changed the requirements for individuals to be tested for COVID-19 (such as having contact with someone who tested positive), Michelle was able to easily update the testing registration form on her own. To assist in their fundraising efforts, the Christ Community team broadcasted their MobileCause mobile messaging number and keyword on local news stations and on the Shelby County Health Department’s website.

Impact

With their MobileCause testing registration form, Christ Community had the ability to easily filter out applicants with symptoms indicating COVID-19, so staff and volunteers did not have to call applicants individually. This greatly reduced call volume and the amount of hours they had to spend in close proximity to one another at the call center. Due to their timely and organized response to the pandemic, the Shelby County Health Department and the University of Tennessee reached out to Christ Community Health Services for guidance on launching other COVID-19 testing facilities in the area. As of April 8th 2020, Christ Community Health Center has collected 2,511 testing requests and tested over 470 individuals for the novel coronavirus. After their success registering individuals for COVID-19 testing, the Christ Community team set up mobile messaging and an online form for both volunteer registration and prayer requests.
