Challenge
Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter (GNHS) needed to raise more money to support growing organizational initiatives, so they decided to host a Dancing with the Stars fundraiser. Wanting to engage community members to vote and make real-time donations to the competing dance teams participating in this event, they contacted MobileCause.
Solution
With MobileCause, dance teams could share their unique keyword (example text ‘Shelley’ to 51555) and use this shortlink (example mcause.us/shelley) via social media, text, email, television, radio and print. Donor names and donation totals appeared live on each team’s individual thermometer creating an exciting and competitive giving environment during the Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter fundraiser.
Impact
More than $124,000 was raised in total for the shelter by donations made to vote for dance contestants. Leading up to this event, they were able to send over 6,000 text messages that updated the donor base as to the event plans. The Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter fundraiser was a success and they thanked every donor for their contribution. They also offered MobileCause’s mobile messaging subscription to stay connected to GNHS through text updates moving forward with the option to donate more at any given time.

Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter
When homeless members of the community have the loss of shelter, a most basic human need, The Good Neighbor Shelter brings them in as guests. They understand that many circumstances lead to becoming homeless, and they provide a program that assists guests in identifying and dealing with a broad range of variables to facilitate the guest’s return to self-sufficiency.
