Dunham+Company Study: Explosive Growth in Donations Via Mobile Devices
One of Five Donors Has Now Given Using Smartphone or Tablet
The use of a mobile device by donors to donate to a charity’s website has jumped by 80 percent since 2013, according to a donor survey commissioned by Dunham+Company and conducted by Campbell Rinker.
Nearly 1 of 5 donors (18 percent) say they’ve used their mobile device to give to a charity’s website, up from just 10 percent two years prior. While the largest jump is among donors under 40 (9 percent in 2013 to 21 percent in 2015), even the oldest donor segment of 60 and older nearly doubled, increasing from 7 percent in 2013 to 13 percent in 2015.
“What’s especially telling is that donors are increasingly using their mobile devices to make donations on a charity’s website. This makes it all the more imperative for a charity to have a mobile-responsive website and giving form.”

Online Giving Statistics That Really Matter To Your Organization!
In the course of talking to organizations who have yet to embrace mobile for fundraising and communications, we often cite online giving statistics supporting how mobile technology has changed the fundamental ways their donors live, work and play. More importantly, why and how those donors give to charitable causes just like theirs.
The Dunham+Company study shows that across every aspect of donor behavior, mobile usage is up. According to the study, mobile usage by donors donating on a charity’s website has jumped 80% since 2013. In fact, the only statistic that showed a downturn was the number of donors NOT using a smartphone or tablet to make their donations.
These findings prove without a doubt what we’ve known all along — organizations who fail to adopt mobile-friendly solutions for everyday and event fundraising, advocacy, donor communications and peer-to-peer crowdfunding, are leaving money on the table because they are failing to reach and engage the growing numbers of donors who now prefer to do their giving on a mobile device.
Summary: To successfully grow donations for your cause, ensure that your organization leverages the power of mobile-friendly fundraising and communication solutions that allow you to collect donations from anywhere and your donors to give from the comfort of their mobile phones and tablets.
