Challenge
The American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Political Action Committee or “The Orthopaedic PAC” needed to raise their total amount of donations at their annual meeting but were held to strict practices. Without the ability to reach out to potential donors beyond their members and special bank security requirements, they needed a solution that could foster more donations and still play by their rules.
Solution
Through MobileCause, the AAOS’ Political Action Committee set up a gated text-to-donate page that their members could easily access. They promoted their keywords PAC to 71777 or AAOS to 41444 at member only events and generated excitement around the option to give in this fashion. At their annual meeting they showcased a real-time thermometer that displayed each donor as they made their donations to the PAC of AAOS. They also soon realized that MobileCause offered peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns, originally something that they did not plan on using. After successfully setting up text-to-donate and peer-to-peer campaigns, the only problem was selecting certain people to contact. The MobileCause app made it easy to target the specific people that were in the AAOS database so that the only people contacted were those that legally could be contacted.
Impact
Beginning with a goal of $90,000 and ending with a total collected of $116,974, the integration of text-to-donate at the event was a huge success. By expanding their approach, within their boundaries, they were able to deliver positive results that exceeded traditional methods. They continue to use MobileCause in innovative ways like having members of an audience text to submit questions to a guest speaker. This is a perfect example of how the power of technology can elevate engagement and participation on whole new levels.
