Facing federal and state funding cuts, Reach Out and Reach Illinois decided they needed to host a fundraiser. They wanted a casual awards night event, but had no experience and did not know what went into an event of this kind. Realizing that they needed help, Reach Out and Reach searched for a partner that could help them make their ‘Great Stories Awards Night’ event a success.

MobileCause set-up a multi-solution approach to help Reach Out and Read implement their first fundraising event. With the use of text messaging and online forms, they were able to promote and sell tickets prior to the event on their website and reach their supporters on their mobile devices creating a seamless registration process. For those individuals who wanted to purchase at-the-door tickets, this did not pose a problem as they were able to accept cards as well as cash. During the event they motivated attendees to participate by purchasing raffle tickets, and with the help of mobile donation pages they were able to collect more funds and operate with less staff than what would traditionally be required.

MobileCause helped Reach Out and Read to shatter their fundraising expectations. With a goal of selling 75 tickets, they sold 125 and had 110 people attend. They also had a fundraising goal of $6,000 and were able to raise $10,000 for their cause! The funds raised support the youth of Illinois to succeed in school, increase literacy, and develop a love for books.

Reach Out and Read

Reach Out and Read makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care, so that children grow up with books and a love of reading. The 3.9 million families served annually by Reach Out and Read together more often, and their children enter kindergarten better prepared to succeed, with larger vocabularies, stronger language skills, and a six-month developmental edge over their peers. In Illinois alone there are 126 Reach Out and Read clinical locations, serving nearly 137,000 children and their families while distributing more than 161,000 books annually.
