St. Augustine High School is a college preparatory school for young men grades 8-12 in New Orleans, Louisiana. When St. Augustine launched their first ever day of giving, Give Purple Day, they were looking for a powerful method to engage and motivate younger alumni to participate. They created a Young Alumni Challenge, where each gift was doubled by corporate sponsors, but they still needed a way to reach alumni online. St. Augustine’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations, Melissa Duplantier, began searching for a fundraising platform that supported both online and in-person giving.
Melisa ultimately choose MobileCause because it is an all-in-one fundraising platform, supporting both digital and traditional marketing channels. Within each eblast to faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and supporters she included links to online giving pages. On Instagram, she included text-to-donate instructions, as they didn’t have enough followers to qualify for the “swipe up” feature. On campus they launched a live event thermometer, where donors’ names were displayed with their contribution amount, encouraging a friendly competition.
With the help of MobileCause, St. Augustine High School was able to raise a record number of donations for Give Purple Day, all while increasing engagement with younger alumni. In addition to raising over $200,000 dollars for their Give Purple Day, St. Augustine was also able to collect more data and insights on donors than ever before. When Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, St. Augustine lost a significant amount of file records, making it difficult to contact previous supporters again. Now, their marketing department can reach alumni and past supporters through more both digital and traditional channels and with better insight.
