Carrier Billed Donation Timelines and Requirements

 

Keyword Approval Timelines & Requirements

Text to Give keywords take a minimum of 30 business days to provision. This 30 business day timeline begins from the time that all required documents are received and approved by MobileCause.

Timelines are most affected by Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T’s ability to verify organizations independently. Carriers use external vetting sources like Guidestar, Aegis and Lexis Nexis.  If a nonprofit organization’s information is up to date and accurate in Guidestar, they are typically provisioned within normal timeframes.  If their information cannot be independently verified, or if the information they provide doesn’t match vetting sources, they can be rejected by carriers and experience additional delays.

Because of these conditions, MobileCause is not able to guarantee a Text to Give keyword will be live by any date.

Carrier Billed Keyword Requirements

Without exception, nonprofit organizations must:

  • Be a valid 501(c)(3) organization. Other 501(c) classifications are not eligible: 501(c)(6), 501(c)(4), 501(c)(7) etc.
  • Submit previous year’s 990 form or independently audited financials showing  more than $500,000 in annual revenue. Unfortunately, in-house records such as P&L records from Quickbooks are not accepted.
  • Submit a Verizon Consumer Protection Certification Form.

 

Carrier Donation Payout Timelines & Requirements

Only Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T customers are eligible to make carrier billed donations. Additionally, most family, group and corporate plans are ineligible.

Carriers must wait until individuals pay their phone bill before they can remit donations. Because MobileCause must wait for funds from carriers, organizations typically receive donations between 90-120 days. Occasionally, carriers remit donations over further extended periods of time.

As a corporate policy, MobileCause remits donations every two weeks to nonprofit organizations as funds are received from carriers.

Additionally, organizations receive mobile number only for individuals who make carrier billed donations.

 

Getting Started

Here is what you need to do to start the Text to Give approval process:

  1. Sign up for a MobileCause plan by calling (888) 661-8804 or by sending us a message.
  2. Click the link you receive in the welcome email to download the Text to Give application and Verizon CPC form.
  3. Submit application, Verizon CPC form, and previous years 990 form or 3rd party audited financials.

Additionally, after signing up, you will be contacted by an applications specialist.
