Challenge

Westminster Christian Academy (WCA) families and corporate partners joined hands and hearts to raise donations for their annual Feed the Need fundraiser. After setting a bold goal of $150,000 to feed hungry children in Haiti and Liberia, they knew they would need to go beyond their traditional fundraising and communication methods to accomplish it.

Solution

To begin building awareness and garnering donations before their event, WCA enlisted students, families and faculty to set up personal fundraising pages. These pages included their own photo, message and fundraising goal and the ability to easily share with their networks. WCA also offered the convenience of collecting donations via smartphone, tablet or PC in addition to cash and check. During the event, Feed the Need fundraisers used shortlinks, text message keywords and shortcodes to promote donations in-person and by email, text message, and social media.

Impact

By the time of their event, 400 families had set up and promoted their own crowdfunding pages to support the fundraising effort. At the event, they ended up surpassing their goal, raising a total of $156,000 from 1,465 donors and 12 corporate sponsors. Thanks to MobileCause, WCA was able to achieve their ambitious goal and their students packed 30,000 meals in just 6 hours to be shipped overseas to hungry children in Haiti and Liberia.
